Colorado Community Information
Denver's Mountain Suburbs Nestled in the mountain suburbs immediately west of Metropolitan Denver, Genesee, Conifer and Evergreen offer the best of both worlds: a relaxed, rural lifestyle that is only 30 minutes from the excitement of one of America's fastest growing, most vibrant cities. The foothills just west of Denver mark the transition from the high plains to the Continental Divide and Genesee/Evergreen/Conifer are small foothills communities where cowboys in pickup trucks, joggers, cyclists and Denver executives all share a strong sense of pride in their unique mountain town. They are considered fortunate by city dwellers and they do little to change that notion. Streams run full to their banks with clean rushing water, grassy mountain meadows explode with the colors of wildflowers and crisp mornings are accented with clear mountain air. We share our land with foxes, elk, tassel-eared squirrels, hummingbirds, and abundant other wildlife. Accessing Denver via I-70 on the north and Hwy 285 on the south, Genesee, the sister communities of Evergreen and Conifer are only minutes from the business and cultural activities in downtown Denver, yet miles closer to heaven. Both roads are 4-lane, limited access highways that whisk commuters to and from our quiet mountain area. Skating or fishing on Evergreen Lake, horseback riding through huge stands of Aspen and Ponderosa Pine, cross-country skiing on Elk Meadow and hiking in the abundant open space throughout the Genesee, Evergreen and Conifer area, the cares of the day fall away with each breath of fresh air. This is the best of city and mountain living. Evergreen is as much an attitude as anything else. It is unincorporated and enjoys Jefferson County Sheriff's protection, Jefferson County Schools (Colorado's largest system) and first-rate volunteer fire and ambulance networks. While the foothill communities offer a small-town atmosphere, it is growing into the next century. Major supermarkets, national franchise retailers and other neighborhood convenience stores are available locally. Regional shopping centers are only 30-45 minutes away in Denver. In the foothill communities of Genesee, Conifer and Evergreen weather is like Denver's: low humidity, mild winters, pleasant summers, 300 days of sunny skies each year, snow falls typically melt in a day or two. Residents are renowned for enjoying the outdoors more than most folks because we can comfortably be outside all year around. Wildlife, beautiful flora and breathtaking vistas are everywhere. Avid campers often stow their gear permanently when they move into the area because they can enjoy our natural surroundings from the comfort of their own homes. From cabins to castles, neighborhoods to secluded acreage, $100,000 to $1,000,000, the foothill communities offer old-fashioned amenities like privacy, elbow room, panoramic views, the magnificence of undisturbed nature at every turn, quiet and tranquility.
